I was born March 8th, 1967 to Gerald and Nancy Steed, at the military Air Force base hospital in Dover, Delaware. Sixteen days later after my fathers discharge was up he moved us to the family farm east of Floral City Florida where I still live today with my wife Michelle and our son Titus. Being raised on a farm takes hard work and strict discipline and I believe these qualities have molded me into not only the man, but also the Artist I am today. I believe in having pride in your work and always push for quality. My musical influence also came from the farm. Most of my family play and sing and there were always plenty of it at the family gatherings. I believe that everybody has God given abilities and mine are definitely in the musical realm. I grew up singing in church and at the family events learning the old bluegrass and country songs of yesteryears, and at the young age of eight years old I found the love for writing, mostly poems and short stories. I learned to play the guitar at thirteen and by the following year wrote my first country song. Though I was raised up in church and gave my heart to the Lord, I lived in a backslidden state for several years. By the time I graduated high school, I had written several country songs and my goals and dreams were to be a main stream artist, but God had other plans for me Through the death of my brother Gerald, who took time often to witness to me, I surrendered my life and my talent to pursue God's will. By the influence of a Godly women, who later became my wife, I got back into church and dove whole heartedly into studying the Word. We joined a God fearing independent Baptist Church, where I played lead guitar for their local Southern Gospel band for many years. I was introduced to Christian Country music when a church member let me listen to a Jubilation tape with lead singer, Bruce Haynes, and I realized then that I didn't have to give up my country music, I just had to change the message and my personal focus. Since then I have written over fifty Christian Country songs which are recorded on five different albums. I have released several singles on nation wide radio, as well as Europe, and have had great success in the charts, many in the top five. In 1999 I won the nomination for "New Artist of the Year". In 2000 and 2001 the nominations for "Male Vocalist of the Year", on a nationally televised Christian Country award show at the Ryman auditorium, held by the Christian Country Music Association. I have had the privilege of meeting many Christian Main Stream Artist such as: Mark Wills, Collin Raye, Marty Raybourn, Linda Davis, John Berry, Jeff Carson, Tammy Cochran, and others. Shortly after recording my first project, and as I began to be invited to sing at other churches, I have seen many souls saved and lives changed. We've seen drug addicts and alcoholics transformed into Sunday School teachers and bus workers. I focus more on being a ministry than an entertainer, even though opening up for the 2001 CCMA Award Show was a great thrill. I try to give a good balance of music, preaching, and always follow up with an altar call. I have built a portable stage trailer and plans are being made for a Wal-Mart tour in Florida, taking the ministry to the streets. My goals are to make some recognition for Christian Country Music and motivate the church to get involved with the work of the Lord. When I do get some free time I enjoy the outdoors, camping, hunting, fishing, raising coon hounds, and spending time with my family. Recent news: Since August 2005 I've been putting together a new CD entitled "Prodigal Road". It should be out sometime in June. I'm also pitching a few songs to Alan Jackson and praying Gods will be done there. Personal news: I've been praying about moving to Kentucky. Somewhere around Glasgow in Barren County. I have my home in Florida up for sale and if Gods willing we will move. I haven't been doing many concerts lately for not knowing when we will move. It could be anytime and it makes booking hard to do. In the mean time I'm still busy being daddy and husband, and working around the farm. I do get out to do a little coon hunting and metal detecting. Here lately I've been hunting relics on some private property in the Wahoo swamp, where the second Seminole war started. I've found a few muskett balls and a hundred ticks. |
